Linux culture has changed the world - how to use the open source way for anything === Final abstract === This session teaches how to use the "The Open Source Way" handbook to guide any project, such as a business, marketing, or education effort. The handbook is a community-written, canonical reference for the principles, implementations, and examples of the open source way. Learn how doing anything the open source way may bring a project many of the same benefits of scalability, distributed intelligence, robust R&D, and so forth. The audience learns how to apply the open source way beyond software. They gain knowledge in making the process easier, helping others, and building on the success of distilled knowledge of many hundreds of open source projects. The open source brand, made stronger by the success of Linux, brings these benefits to other domains, returning the benefits as a rising tide. Karsten Wade has presented at many conferences on the subject of community building and the open source way. == Requirements == * 30 min * Target audience: Any * Expertise level: No expertise required. * Relevance: Understand and harness a key part of the changing business and cultural landscape * 1. Otherwise, it all sounds too much like a communist coding conspiracy. The open source methodology is a way of creating and collaborating that follows principles such as radical transparency, sharing by default and fiat, and legitimate peripheral participation. In addition, open source has come to describe more than a software development methodology. It describes automobile designs, beer recipes, and house blueprints. People are extracting the core principles of what makes an open source project so successful and applying that to other domains of human endeavor.
