== Title "Why should you care about an open infrastructure for your project?" == Abstract (200 word max) In this presentation Karsten will explain how and why it's crucial that your FLOSS project maintain a 100% free/libre and open infrastructure. Hint: because of the scientific method. With the rise of no-cost services such as GitHub and Trello that are useful to FLOSS projects, many projects are choosing to gain the advantage of the tools and the social systems that go along with them. However, there are dangers to the project in using these services. This presentation will briefly cover those dangers, why you should care about them, and how to move your project towards being 100% FLOSS. == Bio (100 word max) Since 2000 Karsten has been teaching the open source way. As part of Red Hat's Open Source and Standards team, he helps with community activities. As a 19 year IT industry veteran, Karsten has worked as an IT manager, professional services consultant, technical writer, and developer advocate. Recently Karsten has joined the CentOS Project as a new Board member, Red Hat liaison on the Board, and engineering team manager. He lives in his hometown of Santa Cruz, CA with his wife and two daughters on their small urban farm, Fairytale Farm, where they grow food and nurture sustainable community living.
